Ancient Indian Nirayana (Vedic System) Dt. Jan. 7, 2009 Astrology : The zodiac is a circle of space surrounding the earth. It may be imagined as a belt in the heavens about 15 degrees wide in which the plants travel. It is Sun's apparent path that is called the ecliptic. The zodiacal circle is divided into twelve parts each part containing thirty degrees of space called the signs of the ZODIAC each containing 30 degrees of celestial longitude; 12 signs each measuring 30 degrees constitute the circle of the zodiac or 360 degrees. In this circle the planets travel each in its own orbit, one outlying beyond the other. These twelve signs of the zodiac are called Rashis : Mesha (Aries), Vrishabha (Taurus), Mithuna (Gemini), Karka (cancer), Sinha (Leo), Kanya (Virgo), Tuila (Libra), Vrischika (Scorpio), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Makara (capricron), Kumbha 9Aquarius) and Meena (Pisces).


It is these twelve signs through which the planets travel or transit from west to east going through one sign after another in their order from Mesha (Aries) to Meena (Pisces). The planets as they travel around the zodiac exert an influence according to their separate nature and position in the zodiac. There are twelve planets Viz, Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Shadow, Planets Rahu and Ketu and according to modern astrology Uranus (Hoschel), Neptune and Pluto.

Each Rashi (Sign) of the zodiac is owned by planet termed as rules. Sun rules Sinha (Leo), Moon rules Karka (Cancer), Mars rules Mesha (Aries) and Vrischika (Scorpio), Mercury rules Mithuna (Gemini) and Kanya (Virgo), Jupitor rules Dhanu (Sagittarius) and Meena (Pisces), Venus rules Vrishabha (Taurus) and Tula (Libra) and Saturn rules Makara (Capricorn) and Kumbha (Aquarius).

The rising point in any Rashi (Sign) on the eastern horizon at birth time is called LAGNA (ASCENDANT). The prevailing Rashi (Sign) at birth time of Moon is called Birth Rashi. The twelve Rashis anti clock wise birth Moon Rashi or ascendant are called twelve house covering different aspect of life mainly First House VIZ Lagna (Ascendant) or Birth Moon Rashi signifies Physical stature, natural dispositions etc. The second house signifies money matters family etc. The third house signifies courage younger brother or sister etc. The fourth house signifies mother, domestic environment, property etc. The fifth house signifies children, character, gambling, past birth etc. The sixth house signifies enemies, sickness, debts, litigation etc. The seventh house signifies mate, business partner etc. The eight house signifies life span, nature of death, disease etc. The ninth house signifies father, foreign settlement, religion, spiritual matters etc. The tenth house signifies worldly, activities, Karma, career etc. the eleventh house signifies finance, elder brother or sister etc. The twevlth house signifies expenses foreign place settlement, last stage of life, Moksha……………………...

Further, the ZODIAC is divided into 27 Nakshatras each covering 13°20°. The Vimsottari Maha Dasas cover 120 years lifespan VIZ Major periods of planets following in life from time of birth. The balance of particular Vimsottari Maha Dasas starts from birth time. The Vimsottorn Maha Dasas covering all 27 Nakshatras are in the order of 7 years Ketu Maha Dasa, 20 years Venus Maha Dasa, 6 years Sun Maha Dasa, 10 years Moon Maha Dasa, 7 years Mars Maha Dasa, 18 years Rahu Maha Dasa, 16 years Jupiter maha Dasa, 19 years Saturn Maha Dasa and 17 years for Mercury Maha Dasa.

Effects of Maha Dosa of particular planet depends on its exact position at birth time in particular Nakshatra, the Moon birth rashi and specific house in Horoscope as life advances.

The 27 Nakshatras are Ashvini, Bharini, Kritika, Rohini, Mrugshirsh, Ardrer, Punarvasu, Pushya, Ashlesha, Magha, Purva Phalguni, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Chitra, Suati, Vishakha, Anuradha, Jyeshtha, Mool, Purva, Shadha, Uttara Shadha, Shravan, Dhanishtha, Shattara, Purva Bhadrapad, Uttara Bhadrapad and Revati.
